Joel L. Garrison served in the Army National Guard (ARNG) for 31 years. During Operation Iraqi Freedom II, he served as an intelligence officer and as the Commander of an artillery battery. After returning from Iraq, Joel accepted an active-duty military assignment at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in Arlington, VA. Throughout his career, Joel has leveraged technology to improve organizational effectiveness.
Joel’s experiences include assignments as a liaison to the Army Reserve Forces Policy Committee (an advisory board to the Secretary of the Army); Protocol Officer to the Director, ARNG; Army Congressional Fellow with one year of service in the Office of Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR); legislative adviser to the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Installation, Energy, and Environment; Chief, Military Intelligence Readiness at the Division and Branch level in support of the ARNG; Investigation Oversight Team Chief and Objective Lead on a Systemic Inspections Team within the Department of the Army Inspector General Agency; and Chief, Joint Exercises Branch at the NGB. His volunteer activities include service as Treasurer on the Army Strategist Association’s National Board of Directors.
